Next week, the neighbourhood policing team and Axminster food charity Nourish are hosting an event to highlight the valuable work of specialist services and partner organisations who work to keep East Devon communities safe. Axminster-based Police Community Support Officer, Ben Middleton, has been working with Nourish who have been providing food and support for families across Axminster as part of their weekly ‘Picnics in the Park’ events. The final picnic of the summer will bring together emergency services, local organisations and charities for a day designed to be entertaining and informative for all ages. The event will take place on Tuesday 25 August, from 10:00am at the Axe Valley Academy school field in Axminster. Visitors will be able to meet police officers, police cadets and police volunteers, as well as Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, Axminster Care Service, Axminster Town Council, Axminster Royal British Legion, Axminster Community Shed, The Minster Church, Nourish, and The Flamingo Pool, as well as Police Mascots Juliet and PD Bravo. Interactive attractions will include games on the field, static emergency services vehicle displays, a speed gun game, a craft area and display stands from partner organisations where visitors can ask questions or raise concerns. PC Ben Middleton said: “This is the first time we are running this event, and we felt it was really important to create something inclusive, fun, interactive and educational which provides something of interest for all ages. “This event is a chance for members of the public to meet the inspiring people who work to keep us safe, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and to learn more about how local authorities and organisations work together to keep Axminster safe.” Axminster Town Mayor, Jack Price, will be opening the event. Limited car parking is available on site and Axe Valley Academy canteen will be providing free food for children. Parents, friends and family members are welcome to bring a picnic with them on the day. For more information, please follow the Rural East Devon policing team on Facebook. | ||
